VW Prices New Midsize Three-Row to Compete

Apr 4, 2017
Volkswagen of America has released pricing for the 2018 Atlas three-row SUV, and its aggressive pricing strategy shows that VW is intent on competing with the volume leaders in the segment, the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander, and Honda Pilot. Pricing will start at $31,425 for the base front-wheel-drive S model with the 2.0L I-4 turbo, including $925 destination. The next step up is the V-6 S model, which starts at $32,825, including destination. All-wheel-drive is a $1,800 option on all trim levels. The limited-edition Atlas S “launch” model is offered exclusively with the 276hp 3.6L VR6 engine for $34,425 for the front-drive model and $36,225 for the all-wheel-drive model. The Launch edition features a panoramic sunroof, Homelink garage door opener, footwell lighting, 8-inch touchscreen entertainment system, and SiriusXM satellite radio with a three-month trial subscription.
Moving up the food chain, the Atlas SE model starts at $34,515 and adds heated front door mirrors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, blind spot monitor with rear-traffic alert, pushbutton start, heated front seats, and 10-way power driver seat. The VR6 model adds $1,400 to the price for a $35,915, and the AWD VR6 starts at $37,715. The SE with the Tech package adds adaptive cruise, forward collision warning and emergency braking, lane departure warning, power liftgate, automatic climate control, and auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The SEL trim adds an “Easy Open” liftgate, eight-way power passenger seat, driver side seat and exterior mirrors memory function, park distance control, 115V second-row power outlet, and a factory-installed tow hitch. The SEL FWD model starts at $41,815, and the AWD starts at $43,615.
At the top of the Atlas pyramid is the SEL Premium model, available exclusively with all-wheel-drive and the VR6, which adds the 12.3-inch configurable Volkswagen Digital Cockpit, 20-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, power-folding door mirrors, puddle lights, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, automatic high beam control, park assist, area view camera, and a Fender 12-speaker premium audio system with 480 watts.
À la carte option packages include second-row captain’s chairs for $625 on SE and SEL trims, the R-Line appearance package on the SE and SEL models for $1,960, and black 20-inch allow wheels for $995 on the SEL, and $235 on the SEL Premium. The Atlas will be in dealerships in May, with VR6 models arriving first.
