Elon Musk Says Tesla Semi To Be Unveiled in September
Says Class-8 Truck Will be “Seriously Next Level”
Perhaps no individual in recent memory has captured the world’s and the automobile market’s imagination quite like Elon Musk. Just last month, Musk said in a tweet that building an electric big-rig with sports-car-like acceleration would be “no problem.” Now, Musk is claiming the unveiling of the long-anticipated Tesla Class-8 semi truck is mere months away and that it will be unveiled in September. In his tweet, Musk said the development team had done an “amazing” job and that the truck would be “seriously next level.”
Musk further elaborated and said that the reveal of the Tesla pickup would come within the next 18 to 24 months. We couldn’t help but respond with a photo of our Model U concept, which continues to get polarized reactions from readers.
Despite all the trash-talk from his detractors, which are many, Tesla’s market valuation continues to go upward, surpassing all rationality, recently surpassing Ford Motor Company and briefly General Motors, despite selling a mere fraction of the number of vehicles the Detroit titans do. Like the late Steve Jobs, some believe the Musk true believers get caught in the “reality distortion field” and that Musk’s seemingly hyperbolic comments must be taken with a proverbial grain of salt. The reveal of the Class-8 truck will likely precede its official production by 12-18 months, if not more. If the same timeline applies to the pickup, expect to see that one in production by 2021 or later.
