VIDEO – Behind the Trophy: Why the 2017 Nissan Titan is Our Pickup Truck of the Year
Truck Trend Shows You How We Tested the Titan
By now, you’re probably aware that Truck Trend’s 2017 Pickup Truck of the Year award went to the Nissan Titan. Just like armpits, everyone has opinions, and commenters in the peanut gallery have let us know what they think about our decision. And just as many of you were surprised with the results, we too went in with different expectations. However, Pickup Truck of the Year isn't a balloted popularity contest: It's driven by data, raw numbers, and independent scoring from our judges.
We’d like to shed some light on how we came to our decision, and we’re turning to YouTube to do it. We spent several days recreating our test in front of the camera for “Behind the Trophy,” showing viewers exactly why we chose the fullsize, V-8–powered, American-designed and -built Titan as our Pickup Truck of the Year. In sum, even on second encounter, we stand by our choice proudly. The award went to the Titan fair and square.
Check out the video below to watch us put Nissan’s fullsize pickup through its paces again, taking it off-road, using it to tow a trailer up a steep mountain grade, and hustling it down a closed highway—thanks to our friends at the California State Patrol—at speeds that were 100 percent legal and not at all above the posted speed limit, no sir. While we won’t convince every skeptic that the Titan really is the all-around high-quality truck we say it is, hopefully “Behind the Trophy” is a window into how and why we do what we do.
