Ford Reveals 2018 F-150 Police Responder

First-Ever Pursuit-Rated Pickup Joins Law Enforcement Lineup This Fall

Jul 20, 2017
This fall, Ford will add one more vehicle to its law enforcement fleet, the 2018 F-150 Police Responder. The company says the Police Responder is the industry’s first-ever pursuit-rated pickup, capable of speeds up to 100 mph thanks to its standard 3.5L EcoBoost engine and 10-speed transmission. With 375 hp and 470 lb-ft, it also puts out more power and torque than any other pursuit vehicle on the market.

The Police Responder comes equipped as a SuperCrew on the F-150’s 145-inch wheelbase, meaning a 5.5-foot bed comes along for the ride. On the civilian F-150, the powertrain/bodystyle combination is good for a payload rating between 1,400 and 2,030 pounds, but it’s not immediately available which gross weight rating the police F-150 will have. Ford rates the Police Responder with a towing cap of 7,000 pounds.

Aiding capability in wholly another way is the Police Responder’s standard FX4 package, which features 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and underbody skidplates, along with the regular F-150 4x4’s two-speed transfer case. The Police Responder also gets a 240-amp alternator, engine-hour and idle-hour meters, and a police-calibrated brake system with upgraded calipers and pad friction material.

Inside, the Police Responder gets a column shifter and a center console delete, making space for a variety of upfits. Both front seats are upholstered in heavy-duty cloth and enhanced with slim bolsters and anti-stab plates. Police-spec vinyl rear seating and heavy-duty vinyl flooring help with cleanup after transporting perps.

“Ford’s 2018 F-150 Police Responder is the perfect all-terrain law enforcement vehicle,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford’s police brand marketing manager. “Aside from its industry-first on-road pursuit capability, this purpose-built pickup can comfortably seat five, while providing capability in off-road patrol situations for officers in rural environments patrolled by sheriff’s departments, border patrol operations, and the Department of Natural Resources.”
The Police Responder will join Ford’s fleet near the end of the year. It will join Ford’s Police Interceptor Utility, Special Service F-150 and Expedition, and Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle, as well as the Police Interceptor Sedan, Police Responder Hybrid Sedan, and Special Service Police Sedan.
