Discovery Communications and TEN: The Enthusiast Network Agree to Joint Venture
Companies to Join Forces on Diverse Platforms to Produce Automotive Media
Truck Trend parent company TEN: The Enthusiast Network announced today that it would enter into a consolidated joint venture with Discovery Communications, the entertainment giant behind the cable TV channel Velocity. The new venture will bring Velocity and TEN’s entire automotive digital, live event, social, and direct-to-consumer portfolio together.
Once the deal officially closes, the partnership (called TEN: A Discovery Communications Company) will become a top automotive media outlet in the U.S. The venture will give car and truck enthusiasts plenty of access to shows like Roadkill, Speed is the New Black, Ignition, and other titles under TEN and Velocity’s umbrella. Notably, consumers can expect Velocity content to appear on Motor Trend OnDemand, including unique content from some of the cable channel’s best-known stars.
The new venture will be led by Scott Dickey, current TEN president, and Bob Scanlon, who will be appointed president of Velocity and TEN Video Content. Dickey and Scanlon will report to Paul Guyardo, chief commercial officer for Discovery Communications.
“TEN’s automotive brands have become leaders in their categories by delivering a high quality, high engagement audience,” said Dickey. Scanlon concurred, saying that by combining TEN with Velocity, “we are creating a powerhouse of short-, mid- and long-form content for the passionate and growing base of automotive super fans in the U.S. and around the world.”
