Contemporary and Capable: The 2018 Range Rover Velar Gets Ad Love

A Refined addition to the Range Rover Family

Land Rover is getting ready to welcome its newest edition to North America—the Range Rover Velar.
The Velar was introduced earlier this year in March during the Geneva Motor Show and is only now making its way to the U.S. both in showrooms and through a lively advertising campaign. Hoping to capture the eyeballs of prospective buyers, the Velar appears in an intriguing 30-second video spot airing on YouTube and major broadcast networks. Land Rover has also partnered with publisher Condé Nast, connecting readers of GQ, Wired, and Vogue with the new Velar.

Why should we be excited about the Velar? This luxury wagon is stuffed to the luggage racks with techy features, beginning with the door handles. Take a close look at the Velar. The door handles, along with the side steps, are “deployable” and recede back into the vehicle, where they hide flush with the sides combining aerodynamics and elegance.

The base model includes headlamps that sense oncoming traffic and direct beams away from other drivers’ retinas, a fully customizable interior experience with voice and temperature control, 8-speaker surround sound, heated seats and steering wheel, and luxuriously tailored leather and cloth upholstery.

This is still a Land Rover product, so in addition to pampering its occupants, the Velar must also be capable off-road. When traction is less than desirable, the optional locking rear differential, low-traction launch control, and 9 inches of ground clearance will keep you roving the ranges. When the adventure takes a wet turn, sensors in the rearview mirrors alert the driver when the Velar is close to exceeding its 25-inch wading depth.

The base model Velar P250 commands the power of 247 horses, getting up to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds. When cruising on the highway, lane departure sensors and auto emergency braking help maintain peace of mind, warning unwary drivers of potential dangers with a steering wheel vibration. Fuel economy has yet to be announced for the Velar, but you’ll be too busy marveling at the refinement and elegance to notice any stops at the pump.
