Volkswagen Teams Up with Amazon to Provide 2018 Atlas Test Drives On Demand
Prime Now Customers in Certain Markets Can Sign Up for Next Two Weekends
Volkswagen and Amazon Prime Now are teaming up to bring the 2018 Atlas right to the doorsteps of customers in Los Angeles and Chicago. From September 22–24 and September 29–October 1, folks in qualifying zip codes can reserve an appointment, and an Atlas expert will coordinate a 45-minute test drive of VW’s largest offering in the customer’s own neighborhood.
“We are very excited to work with Amazon to introduce more consumers to our newly launched, seven-seater SUV through this unique test drive experience,” said Greg Tebbutt, Senior Director, Transformation, Strategy and Communications, Volkswagen of America. Tebbutt said the program helps make the most of people’s limited time with a convenient new way to test out a product.
There are a few limitations: The prospective customer must live within Los Angeles or Chicago, and there are a limited number of appointments available on those two weekends. Furthermore, the only Atlas in the Amazon test drive fleet will be the top-spec SEL Premium, which carries a starting price of $48,490 and comes standard with a 280hp 3.6L VR6 and 4Motion all-wheel drive. It’s arguably a great way to get folks interested in the Atlas, even if they end up with a lower trim level.
This isn’t the first time Volkswagen turned to cyberspace to market its products. In 2000, the company offered two unique colors, Vapor Blue and Reflex Yellow, on its then-trendy New Beetle. Neither color was available from dealers, meaning customers needed to order their cars online rather than from a retailer.
