Petition to Name the Pickup “Official Vehicle of the United States”
Shell Rotella Creates Online Petition to Officially Recognize Pickup Trucks
In a petition to the U.S. White House, Shell Rotella wants to honor the pickup truck as “Official Vehicle of the United States.” The petition is part of a new national campaign from the company, Pickup Pride, which you can learn more about in the video below.
Shell’s petition went live today and needs to reach 100,000 signatures by November 2 in order to get a response from the White House, a date that perhaps purposely coincides with the 2017 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. If you’d like to sign (and why wouldn’t you), check it out on petitions.whitehouse.gov.
The petition states that the company wants “to celebrate the achievements of all hardworking Americans” by recognizing the pickup truck, a vehicle that “continues to support Americans who have given their blood, sweat, and tears to help build our country.” At the time of this writing, the petition has attracted 150 signatures in just a few hours.
In order to drum up excitement for the petition, Shell Rotella partnered with Tommy Pike Customs to create two modified trucks as part of Pickup Pride. The Ram Heavy Duty and GMC Sierra 3500HD both get custom paint, undisclosed suspension and body modifications, and likely some engine and powertrain enhancements, plus Shell Rotella fluids, natch. The trucks will serve as mascots for the campaign and will be included in the 2018 Tommy Pike Customs Tour.
The pickup was arguably invented in the U.S., and no vehicles inspire greater patriotism and brand loyalty than trucks. With a century of pickup history, the U.S. could do very well by officially recognizing trucks, so be sure to sign the petition before the clock runs out November 2.
