2018 Infiniti QX80 Advertisement Promises Luxury For All

The Lone Despot’s Throne is a Thing of the Past, According to Infiniti

Dec 28, 2017
Infiniti released the first TV advertisement for the significantly improved 2018 QX80, drawing distinctions between luxury of the past and luxury of today. Taking inspiration from history’s greatest empires, Infiniti highlights the decadence of kings and rulers all over the world with a series of custom-made throne rooms, featuring indulgent seating, but only for one.
Then, we get a good, long look at a 2018 QX80, featuring quilted leather bucket seating for four lucky occupants in the first and second rows. The contrast is obvious: Infiniti offers luxury for everyone, not just a solitary despot.
Obviously, there’s some marketing hyperbole going on here. The ad features six friends climbing aboard the QX80, but let’s be real here—the luxury SUV’s third-row seating is pretty inhospitable for anyone boasting 5 feet 6 inches or more, so only four of those friends are going to feel like royals. And although the QX80’s quad bucket seats are undeniably comfy, they’re found in an interior that hasn’t had a significant stylistic update since the SUV was introduced 2011 (then called the QX56).
Still, with that available semi-aniline leather, Infiniti’s latest infotainment suite, and optional body roll–quelling Hydraulic Body Motion Control, there’s a lot of luxe to appreciate in the 2018 QX80. At any rate, we’re sure it’s more comfortable than those rock-hard gilded thrones of yore.
