Ford Australia Teases Ranger Raptor in Facebook Video

Video Claims Midsizer “Tested For Anything”

Jan 30, 2018
Ford’s global subsidiaries are building anticipation for the 2019 Ranger Raptor, slated for an official unveiling February 7.
The most recent teaser comes via Ford Australia’s Facebook page. The sub–2-minute video doesn’t show much except the same camouflage-clad widebody Ranger we’ve seen before. Ford does say that the Raptor has been used in dust, water, mud, and sand, adding that the midsize pickup was “tested for anything.”
Borrowing the Raptor name from the mighty F-150, the off-road Ranger has big shoes to fill. But thanks to stout suspension pieces, a wider and taller stance, and the reputed presence of a 2.7L EcoBoost V-6 producing 325 hp and 400 lb-ft, the midsize truck should be plenty fun to drive when the path gets slippery.

While Ford Australia and Ford South Africa have made formal, Ranger Raptor–related announcements, Ford North America has been conspicuously silent on the subject. However, we don’t think that’s an indicator that we’ll get left out of the fun. It’s more likely that Ford is just trying to milk some more attention for the regular Ranger, which was only revealed in North American spec two weeks ago.
Still, we hope we won’t have to wait too long to learn more about the Blue Oval’s rival to the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Here’s hoping the U.S. market will get a second Raptor variant within a year or so.
