GM to Boost Production of Next-Generation Crew Cab Pickups

Jan 10, 2018
General Motors will increase its production of crew cab pickups in time for the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Speaking to Automotive News, company executive Mark Reuss said GM would resolve production issues in order to boost output of its popular crew cab body styles.

The company declined to elaborate, but Reuss suggested in a speech at CES 2018 that production of these family-size pickups was “constrained.” However, the unspecified problems should be solved by the time the all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 hits the market later this year.
Crew cab versions of 1/2-ton pickups are fast becoming the most popular variants sold. With gas prices at historically low-ish prices and truck fuel efficiency approaching that of crossovers, many families and lifestyle pickup owners are switching to crew cabs for their increased interior space for both passengers and cargo.

Chevy revealed its 2019 Silverado last month in off-road–ready LT Trailboss trim, wearing—you guessed it—a crew cab body. Details on the truck were sparse at the time, but we should get a whole lot more info once Chevrolet reveals the 2019 Silverado in full at the North American International Auto Show next week. The company promises its volume-selling 1/2-ton truck will feature more powertrain options than ever, leading us to believe there might be a light-duty diesel on the way.
