First Look–2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD Revealed in Indy
Work Truck Show 2018 Debut Marks GM’s Return to Medium-Duty Market
General Motors is returning to the medium-duty truck market in 2019 thanks to the vehicles you see here, the Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD. Featuring styling that apes the smaller Silverado HD, the medium-duty truck gets a standard Duramax V-8, available four-wheel drive, and an Allison transmission with a power take-off.
That powertrain combination has been proven in generations’ worth of smaller GM trucks, but in this situation it creates 350 hp and 700 lb-ft of slow-churning torque. That’s more power than any of the tunes for the Ford F-650/750’s Power Stroke V-8, with as much or more torque than two of the three Power Stroke versions.
And finally, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD will be available with a variety of in-cab tech: available OnStar connectivity, Commercial Link, a built-in 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and wireless cell phone charging. These features should really help drivers and owner-operators stay connected to the home base while out on the job.
The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD go on sale in late 2018, alongside GM’s other medium-duty trucks, the XD-series Low Cab Forward. Pricing has yet to be announced.
