Entire 2019 Ram 1500 Gas Lineup Tested by EPA

Pentastar V-6 with Standard eTorque Achieves 22 Combined MPG

Sep 5, 2018
The Environmental Protection Agency has now tested each gasoline variant of the 2019 Ram 1500, and the results are a good improvement over its predecessor. The most efficient 2019 Ram is predictably the 3.6L Pentastar V-6, which achieves 20 city/25 highway/22 combined mpg thanks to its standard eTorque electrification.
Those numbers, achieved by a two-wheel-drive pickup, are a fair bit better than the outgoing, non-eTorque 3.6L V-6. The previous-generation Ram was capable of 25 mpg on the highway, but only 17 in the city for a combined 20 mpg in total. Four-wheel-drive pickups are predictably a bit less efficient, but still impressive: 19 city/24 highway/21 combined mpg for the 2019 1500 with a 3.6L V-6.
We already reported on the 5.7L Hemi V-8’s numbers (identical to the 2018 1500, disappointingly), but that was without the bigger engine’s optional eTorque mild-hybrid system. With eTorque, the Hemi is capable of 17 city/23 highway/19 combined mpg for the 4x2 and 17 city/22 highway/19 combined for the 4x4. Those numbers represent a 2-mpg improvement across the board compared to a non-eTorque V-8. In fact, the Hemi with eTorque nearly matches the outgoing truck’s V-6 for fuel economy, proving the mild hybrid system does indeed help with efficiency, particularly in the city.

Compared to the Ford F-150’s equivalent models, the 2019 Ram 1500 is slightly more efficient. The F-150’s standard 3.3L V-6 is capable of 19/25/22 mpg in two-wheel-drive form or 18/23/20 mpg in four-wheel drive. And the 5.0L V-8, backed up by a 10-speed transmission, posts 17/23/19 for the 4x2 and 16/22/18 for the 4x4.
There’s still no word on the forthcoming 3.0L EcoDiesel V-6, but Ram has always said it would be a late-availability model. How late we don’t know, but we hope we don’t have to wait much longer for the torquey, efficient oil-burner.
