Is a Ram Midsize Pickup Truck in the Works?

The midsize pickup truck market is buzzing with rumors of Ram coming to play in the space. GM has the Colorado and the Canyon, Toyota has the Tacoma, Nissan has the Frontier, Honda has the Ridgeline, and Ford announced the return of the Ranger earlier this year. Jeep is also entering the market with a Wrangler pickup truck.
According to a report from Automotive News, FCA is rumored to be building a midsize pickup truck in its Toledo, Ohio, plant where the Jeep Wrangler and upcoming Wrangler pickup trucks will be produced. It seems logical that parts commonalities between the Wrangler pickup and Ram midsize is the only way such a venture could be possible, concurring with the report’s confirmation that suppliers are revealing Ram’s midsize pickup won’t be unibody as many thought, but rather a body-on-frame model. Of course this leads to a ton of speculation on the off-road capabilities of such a vehicle.
Fiat currently sells the Ram 750, a unibody compact in Latin America based on the Fiat Strada, but the likelihood of this vehicle entering the U.S. market is extremely unlikely. FCA provided few details about the truck during its June 1 Capital Markets Day presentation in Balocco, Italy.
The Ram midsize pickup truck could arrive in U.S. dealerships in 2021 For now, it is certainly likely that the parts suppliers are talking about are Wrangler-based pickup parts, which could easily be misconstrued as Ram midsize pickup parts. We know the Wrangler pickup truck is going to be crew-cab only, which leaves Ram an opportunity to add a full line-up to compete in the midsize truck market.
