2019 Ram 1500 North Edition Arrives in Time for Harsh Winter Weather
Special Edition Includes Many of the Off-Road Package’s Goodies
Ram is targeting a special-edition version of the charming 2019 1500 pickup at prospective shoppers in cold-weather areas. The Ram 1500 North Edition, which is based on the midgrade Big Horn trim, will be available as a crew cab 4x4 with either the 5-foot, 7-inch bed or the 6-foot, 4-inch bed, starting at $45,890 plus $1,695 destination.
The North Edition includes many of the Off-Road Package’s features: a low-range transfer case, 1-inch suspension lift, electric-locking rear differential, and towhooks, as well as Falken on/off-road tires with a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake rating. Furthermore, for more comfortable driving on cold mornings, the North Edition includes an engine block heater, heated seats and steering wheel, and remote start. Mopar slush mats protect interior carpeting, while a 12-way power driver seat improves comfort. Heated side mirrors keep the view to the rear as clear as possible.
The North Edition gets a little styling treatment in the way of a body-colored grille, bumpers, mirrors, and door handles, plus a 4x4 decal for the rear fenders. The updates are subtle, but they do give the North Edition a unique look.
However, we must admit a little confusion, as it’s possible to spec out a Ram 1500 with all the same features as the North Edition (save perhaps the sporty appearance upgrades) for less. For example, a Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 equipped with the Off-Road Package (which includes skidplates—not found on the North Edition) and the Level 2 Equipment Group (heated seats, steering wheel, and mirrors, et al.) demands $46,985 with destination, $600 less than the North Edition. You have to love the monochromatic look—and not want skidplates—for the North to make dollars and sense.
Still, customers who do want the North Edition’s appearance and features list will see themselves saving a bit of coin, and Ram dealers are all about giving people plenty of easily selected, pre-packaged options. Such special offerings usually sell very well for truck makers, so there’s almost no doubt the 2019 Ram 1500 North Edition will be a hit.
