Is Chevrolet Making A Big Brother to the Colorado ZR2 based on the Silverado?
Just last week we did a story on the Chevrolet ZH2, a full size Silverado with all the bells and whistles for the military. In 2016, the Colorado ZR2 was released shortly after Chevrolet showed off their military version Colorado ZH2. Since history tends to repeat itself, we think Chevrolet has some exciting truck news coming in 2019. Could a big brother to the Colorado ZR2 be in the works based on the Silverado 1500?
Chevrolet now has two off-road ready models based on the Silverado. The Z71 Trailboss is currently the automakers premier off-road model in the half-ton category. It only makes sense Chevrolet would release a Silverado ZR2 to add to their half-ton or HD offerings. They have already done the work in the ZH2 military model, whose suspension has been beefed up with DSSV Multimatic technology. Chevrolet Performance has been working extensively on this suspension technology, recently releasing a version at SEMA that was tested on extreme terrain over two years on the Hall Racing Colorado ZR2.
The front of the ZH2 looks like spy photos we have acquired of the new HD. This leads us to speculate about either a new half-ton or HD model. We know Chevrolet has been quietly working on a 2020 next-gen HD truck. At the end of the day the question remains—is there a market for a bigger version of the ZR2?
