2019 Chicago Auto Show – Mopar Shows Off Accessories for 2019 Ram Heavy Duty
More Than 170 Products Coming to Big Pickup
The 2019 Chicago Auto Show is a popular one for trucks and SUVs, and Mopar took the opportunity to unveil its lineup of more than 170 products for the new Ram Heavy Duty. Found in the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles booth is a 2019 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Sport with the Off-Road package, painted a fantastic Blue Streak and kitted with a long list of functional and aesthetic upgrades.
The most obvious change from stock is the black-powdercoated Ram Bar in the bed, which is a mostly cosmetic feature but does include mounting points for five LED off-road lights, controlled by an in-cab auxiliary switch panel. The exterior also gets a set of Mopar wheel flares, protecting the paint from the mudslinging 305/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires. Adding additional function is a deployable bed step mounted under the rear bumper, which is available both as a Mopar accessory and a factory-installed option. Inside, the Mopar Ram 2500 gets stainless steel doorsills and waterproof Mopar all-weather floor mats.
Unfortunately, the rugged rock rails, aggressive beadlock-capable wheels, and fantastic bed-mounted tire carrier are Mopar concept products at the moment. Those 17-inch wheels were custom-milled for the project, in fact, but if interest is strong enough, there’s no reason they (and the other one-off products) shouldn’t be available for production. We’re particularly fond of that tire carrier, which should improve departure angles slightly and look cool doing it.
Mopar’s catalog for the Ram Heavy Duty also includes a trailer-mounted rearview camera, gooseneck and fifth-wheel hitch kits, a tailgate bed extender, toolboxes, tonneau covers, and Katzkin seats, among other products. The lineup of accessories was developed after “tens of thousands of hours of testing and validation to meet strict standards,” according to the parts company, using factory-exclusive data that isn’t available to the aftermarket. Mopar says most of its products will be available at the same time as the 2019 Ram Heavy Duty hits the market.
