Top 20 Ford Ranger Pickups at SEMA
When Ford discontinued the compact Ranger pickup in 2012 owners, fans, and enthusiasts nationwide let out a collective whimper. People had grown to love the Ranger's small size, affordable price, and robust aftermarket customization support that the truck enjoyed thanks in part to its nearly 30-year run.
Fans spent the next seven years grumbling that Ford still offered a Ranger in other parts of the world but not here in the U.S. Thankfully, Ford heard these cries and in 2018 reintroduced the Ranger to the U.S. market as a 2019 model.
When time rolled around for the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Ford's new Ranger had only just begun production. So, while Ford had a few custom Rangers showcased in its booth, the larger show was mostly void of Rangers. Thankfully the tide has turned and this year, at the 2019 SEMA Show, there were plenty of customized Ford Rangers tucked into all corners of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
During our travels, we picked out our top 20 Ford Ranger pickups of the show. Most of the trucks were lifted and outfitted for overlanding, however, Ford did have the lone lowered 2020 Ranger in its booth. Many of the trucks had rooftop tents and custom gear racks. Many were outfitted with custom bumpers, and larger diameter dampers seemed to be standard fare. A couple had bike racks, and a few more had light racks. What we didn't see were any engine upgrades, likely because Ranger is only offered with the 2.3L EcoBoost I-4. Next year we'd love to see a Ranger with a 3.5L EcoBoost or even a 5.0L V-8. Make it happen folks!
