New Trucks That Tow 30,000 Pounds or More

Maximum Capacity – Commercial License Required

Jan 11, 2020
Here they are! The best of the best, the most capable of the bunch, the 2020 pickups that can tow more than 30,000 pounds. That number is more than enough to require a commercial license in nearly all circumstances and can prove dangerous for those without enough time and training behind the wheel. Nonetheless it's quite impressive that consumer pickups can now tow what once was relegated to traditional medium duty trucks.
Not all configurations carry the same capabilities, and you should always consult your owner's manual or door sticker before hitching up a load to ensure you're not dangerously overloaded. Also, while we've done our best to ensure a complete list, we're at the mercy of the information provided by the manufacturers and apologize in advance for any errors or omissions. Let's dive in and take a look at the 2020 trucks that tow 30,000 pounds.

New Ford Trucks That Can Tow 30,000 Pounds

For the 2020 model year Ram briefly took the top towing crown by declaring that their Ram 3500 could tow 35,100 pounds. Chevy quickly topped that at 35,500 pounds. However, after many months of anticipation Ford announced that the 2020 F-450 Super Duty would be able to tow as much as 37,000 pounds, and the F-350 35,750. All Power Stroke powered dual-real wheel trucks can tow in excess of 30,000 pounds.

New Chevy Trucks That Can Tow 30,000 Pounds

Chevrolet has historically been on the conservative side of towing ratings, aiming more for a safe and enjoyable experience rather than getting mixed up in the marking wars. However, for 2020 the company went after the competition, holding the top spot at 35,500 pounds for almost a year. Fun fact, Chevrolet claims that all of their Silverado 3500 dual-real wheel trucks are capable of towing more than 30,000 pounds, regardless of trim. That means that most fully equipped High Country model is nearly as capable as the base Work Truck trim.

New GMC Trucks That Can Tow 30,000 Pounds

For 2020 GMC's Sierra HD nearly mirrors its Silverado cousin. In terms of towing, all Sierra HD trucks match the ratings of Chevy's Silverado. Much like the Silverado, the Sierra is all-new from the ground up, save for the 6.6L Duramax diesel engine.

New RAM Trucks That Can Tow 30,000 Pounds

Ram has been the only heavy-duty pickup manufacturer with a dual engine rating strategy for several years now. The company offers the 6.7L Cummins diesel engine in a "standard" and "high-output" configuration, with the top version churning out 1,000 lb-ft of torque. Naturally, the highest tow ratings are achieved with the high-output Cummins engine. In order to achieve a tow rating greater than 30,000 pounds customers must select the high-output Cummins, which is an $11,795 option ($2,695 more than the standard Cummins engine).
