2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon “Stealth” Show Car Storms France
Diesel Jeep Surprises at Paris Motor Show
Jeep is making a strong showing at the Paris Motor Show, including this supremely cool Stealth show car, based on the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. Most of the parts on the Stealth are off-the-rack Mopar accessories, so it should be pretty easy to replicate, given deep enough pockets.
The Wrangler Stealth features a massive suspension lift and 37-inch tires on 17-inch wheels, so even with the Unlimited model’s lower breakover angle, the Stealth should have no problem mounting rocks at Moab (if Jeep ever decides to let the concept get dirty). Other Mopar accessories include the classic half-doors, vented hood, and windshield-mounted light bar. Our favorite exterior features are the flat-top fenders and Rubicon X trail bumpers.
The Iron Peltrox paint is pretty cool as well. Although faux-patina is almost always pretty lame, this truck gets away with it, because it has more texture than traditional matte wraps or paint.
The only thing on the Wrangler Stealth that will be impossible to copy, at least in the United States, is its diesel powertrain. While all Wranglers sold here are gas-only affairs, European Wranglers can be had with a diesel engine, the capable 2.8L I-4 by VM Motori. We last saw this engine in the 2007 Jeep Liberty CRD. We liked it then, and we miss it now.
Jeep also showed another Wrangler, the Unlimited X, at the Paris Motor Show. The Unlimited X is largely a cosmetic exercise, featuring a body-color hardtop, gloss black inserts in the grille, black 18-inch wheels, and a raised hood with neat graphics. It will be available with the 3.6L Pentastar V-6 or the VM Motori 2.8L I-4 diesel.
