2020 Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator High Altitude Special Edition: Snazzberry Cruiser on 20-inch Dubs

Ain’t No Shame in a Street Jeep for City Mobbin’

Feb 6, 2020
To clarify the headline above, Snazzberry is the name of a new color, and "dubs" refers to the fact that the High Altitude marks the first time Jeep has offered a 20-inch wheel for the Wrangler or Gladiator. Let's start off on the same page—the High Altitude model is probably going to get you more props at the mall than on the trail. But please, let's not go so far as to include it in the same category as some SEMA Jeep builds. It's just that the High Altitude is more for urban street warriors than King of the Hammers aficionados. There are plenty of Jeep owners on both sides of the spectrum, and let's be honest—there are a ton of Jeeps that will never see serious off-road use. On top of that, there are probably even more that'll never see a dusty-yet-maintained service road. Enter the High Altitude.

Offered on both the 2020 Jeep Wrangler and 2020 Jeep Gladiator and making its debut at the 2020 Chicago Auto Show, the High Altitude package bundles a number of tasteful, custom accessories and makes for an elegant, sophisticated, and well-balanced machine that still holds its own off-road as a capable (enough) 4x4 adventurer. Each example will have tons of technology and safety features, but that's not nearly as bling-tastic as the variety of eye-catching, fun-to-talk-about colors: Billet Silver, Black, Bright White, Gobi (Gladiator exclusive), Granite Crystal, Ocean Blue (Wrangler exclusive), and Snazzberry (late availability). Snazzberry. Say it again: Snazzberry. Snazzberry.

The High Altitude's main focal point, of course, is that set of fully painted 20-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels wrapped in 275/55R20 Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza all-season tires (hey, that's like almost a 32-inch diameter), touted for "the perfect balance of looks and rugged all-terrain capability." Can you wheel a Jeep on 20s that's set up like this? Sure, just like you can off-road a Range Rover on 22s. The biggest problem is the low-profile tire; this is a street setup. You'll have to be careful and remember you can't sloppily mob into rocks, ledges, edges, or anything of that nature. You'll also have to avoid situations where traction could be compromised. Look at it this way: The High Altitude has its fancy shoes on, ready for a date night or scenic cruise along the coast, so simply avoid most situations that would be classified as truly off-roading. It would be plain stupid to treat the High Altitude like a Rubicon.

Additional exterior stuff includes a plethora of body-color elements set off to perfection by plenty of LED lighting: the hardtop, fender flares, exterior mirrors, door handles, tailgate handle, and front and rear bumpers. (Color-matched Snazzberry!) Seriously though, most customizers at least dabble with color-matching and usually find out it's generally better left to the factory. Oh, there's a matte-black Trail Rated badge, as well, in case any friends question the High Altitude's underlying chops.

As you probably guess, a full leather interior welcomes High Altitude occupants. Leather-lined bits include the Nappa leather seats with quilting, the dashboard, the center console, the door panels, and the steering wheel (as an option). An 8.4-inch touchscreen display with a premium Alpine audio system makes the High Altitude even more ready to roll off the showroom floor. The interior probably isn't well-suited for hosing out, but then again, there shouldn't be a serious need to do so.
