Shell Rotella’s truck show goes online, celebrating Legends of the Road through cyberspace.

Sep 30, 2020
Here at TruckTrend, we try to always be as middle-of-the-road as possible with regard to trucks we report on. Our content doesn't lean too far GM, Ford, Ram, Jeep, or any other truck brand. We do our best to cover them all, equally and as necessary, per whatever news or details we learn about.
Although light-, and heavy-duty pickup trucks are our proverbial bread and butter, every year since 2015 (consistently), we expand our horizons to include big rigs, diesel-powered, Class 8 tractors that pull heavy weight throughout the U.S, and a mind-blowing event that celebrates those trucks and their drivers as part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.
Now in its 38th year, the Shell Rotella SuperRigs show has grown to become North America's premiere assemblage of hard-working truckers and their big-rigs. The event is typically held in parking lots at major truck/travel centers, and on fairgrounds from coast to coast. However, circumstances associated with the COVID-19 pandemic forced SuperRigs organizers to pivot and join the ranks of other groups that moved major public events online in 2020.

Yes, SuperRigs went virtual from August 10 to September 18, offering hard-working truck drivers an opportunity to enter and showcase their trucks and be judged by a panel of experienced industry professionals who work for major trucking publications or broadcast companies.
We dig Shell Rotella SuperRigs because it's a competition that is not "all about the money." Sure, entrants may have hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in their equipment, but it's important to note that those rigs are, in most cases, transporting goods and materials that many of us use or rely on every day and that keep our economy moving during a very challenging time.
No, the winner's (Best of Show is the top category) payoff isn't monetary. At SuperRigs, all winners receive Shell Rotella MyMilesMatter reward points and a limited-edition Shell Rotella jacket.

For the top prize, the 2020 Best of Show winner, Brian Dreher's stunning 2016 Peterbilt 389 will appear in the 2022 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar. A special-edition calendar is being released for 2021. It celebrates the past 37 years of SuperRigs and features Legends of the Road from previous SuperRigs calendars.
"Congratulations to Brian Dreher for winning Best of Show at Shell Rotella SuperRigs and to all of the award winners," says Annie Peter, North American marketing manager, Shell Rotella. "Our 38th Annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs looked a little different this year, but the same spirit of community rose to the top. It was important to Shell Rotella to continue the great tradition of honoring hard-working truckers through SuperRigs as our community continues to help North America persevere during a challenging year."
Shell Rotella SuperRigs Awards are presented for:
Best of Show (three awards)
Tractor Division (three awards)
Tractor Trailer Division (three awards)
Classic Division (three awards)
Although we really look forward to being at Shell Rotella SuperRigs in person each year, following the 2020 event online was fun, and it afforded opportunities to review all of the entries second, third, fourth, and fifth time, for deeper scrutiny and before casting a Peoples' Choice vote.
Hopefully, the event will be back on track and live at a cool venue in 2021. One thing is certain, whenever and wherever it happens, we'll be there!
