Who Will Own the First 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition?
Ram starts production of its quickest, fastest, and most powerful half-ton pickup.
Ram has started production of its highly anticipated 2021 Ram 1500 TRX half-ton pickup truck at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This plant was originally built for making jet engines and ballistic missiles by the military in 1953. Most recently, nearly $1.5 billion was invested in SHAP to get it ready for more than 7,200 employees to build the 2019-and-newer Ram 1500.
The highlight of the Ram TRX is the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 (Hellcat, but not Hellcat) engine under the hood that makes 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque and clocks a quarter mile time of 12.9 seconds at 108 mph. While you're not likely to see the Ram 1500 TRX in the wild just quite yet, it earned MotorTrend's 2021 Truck of the Year award and was just tested in Four Wheeler's Pickup Truck of the Year competition.
The first TRX to roll off the assembly line, logically a Launch Edition, proudly touts its VIN0001 status and is indeed quite a special truck. Not only is it the first production TRX to come to fruition, it's the first of only 702 TRX Launch Editions. The Launch Edition, which sold out in less than three hours, pairs the TRX Level 2 Equipment Group (which adds a heads-up display, beadlock-capable wheels, upgraded beats courtesy of a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, among other features) with exclusive Anvil Gray paint and a handsome red and brushed-aluminum center console badge commemorating its Launch Edition status. Launch Edition VIN0001 also sports a RamBar, Rock Rails, and Bed-Mounted Tire-Carrier by Mopar; Trailer Tow Group; and Trailer Reverse Steering Control—because VIN0001.
What will become of the 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Launch Edition VIN0001? Interestingly, it doesn't have an owner, yet. Knowing its collector-status potential, Ram announced that the truck would be auctioned for charity. Info for potential bidders (wouldn't we all like to fall in this category) will be announced after the new year. Someone's going to have a lighter pocketbook after this purchase, but considering all proceeds will go to charity, it'll be a win-win for everyone.
