Best Diesel Deals on Craigslist: Honolulu

Mar 3, 2021
This "Best Diesel Deals on Craigslist" virtual road trip across the U.S. started in March 2020, with a report on one of former president Bill Clinton's communications rigs—a diesel-powered, 1994 Ford E-350—being offered for sale near Denver, Colorado. The vehicle's uniqueness and the fact that it was sold privately through Craigslist are the things that kicked off our ongoing search for similar diesel deals from coast to coast.
Although pickup trucks with Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke engines are plentiful almost everywhere, they are not the primary focus of our series. Uncommon, unique, or even quirky diesel vehicles, equipment, parts, etc., are what we look for first. But there certainly are plenty of instances where the late-model pickups we're all familiar with take the bigger portion of the spotlight.

For this installment of the Best Diesel Deals on Craigslist, we decided to break away from the mainland and take a look at the rigs and rides Honolulu, Hawaii, has to offer. Our expectations weren't overwhelmingly high, and the search for "diesel" resulted in only 89 vehicles (the lowest number since the series began). However, despite the small quantity, there actually were several quality deals to be had in and around Oahu's main city.
As always, we want to know details if you follow up on one of these examples. Be sure to let us know about good diesel deals that you come across on Craigslist, too. Send info and a link to: dieselpower@motortrend.com.

As an XL, this is basically a work truck that is a great platform for building a slick, cruise-and-show dually. The truck is different in that it's a SuperCab model and not the more common four-door, it has manual windows and locks, and it already has a few mods (lowered, LED lights, monochrome exterior treatments) that indicate it may be an uncompleted project that simply needs a little time and investment (beyond the $28,000 asking price) to become a cool custom ride.

Similar to other 1995 to 2003 Ford trucks we come across in Facebook searches, the 7.3L Power Stroke engine is the big attraction for this rig. After the mechanical interest, its looks good (lifted, Fox Factory shocks, Mickey Thompson 38x15.50 R22 "Gripper" tires, and Fuel wheels), and $8,000 or best offer price also earn it a high ranking. The seller says good trades will also be considered.

This rig joins others in this group, as its odometer reads well beyond 150,000 miles. Despite this, it's very clean and appears to be in really good condition. Banks products give the 6.6L Duramax engine nearly 180 additional horsepower, and it has rear air bags, new brakes, water pump, and brakes. For $17,750, this pickup appears to be a really solid buy.

2000 Dodge Ram 2500

Here is a classic that is in great condition. It's got a 5.9L Cummins diesel engine, five-speed manual transmission, and lots of new parts. We agree with the seller: "You will not find another one this clean." This one costs $25,000 or best offer.

Again, we like finding and including diesel-related vehicles and such on Craigslist, not trucks exclusively. This $3,500 service rig is only a half-ton and isn't powered by oil, but the truck transports diesel fuel and is used to fill up trucks, machines, etc., remotely. A 75-gallon Transfer Flow diesel refueling station is mounted in the bed, and there's a large storage rack over the bed that extends over the roof of the cab.
