Best Diesel Deals on Craigslist: Phoenix

Jan 26, 2021
We continue searching for the "Best Diesel Deals on Craigslist," through a virtual road trip that started in March 2020. The tour began with a report on a 1994 Ford E-350, which served as a rolling communications center for Bill Clinton, the 42nd U.S. president. Now our database holds 23 stories that highlight results from our ongoing search for diesels being privately sold via Craigslist from coast to coast.
It's important to note that diesel-powered pickup trucks, while plentiful almost everywhere, are not the primary target of our searches. In an effort to have some fun with this project, we're looking for uncommon, unique, or even quirky diesel vehicles, equipment, parts, etc. However, there certainly are instances where the late-model pickups we're all familiar with receive proper credit.

Phoenix, Arizona, is a truck buyer's paradise, as rust simply does not exist in that area. Even the oldest vehicles are void of body cancer of any sort, which sometimes makes asking prices seem a bit higher than they are for similar rigs in other areas. We were treated to 514 vehicles to choose from for this group.
With the exception of one rig, the Blazer, which is cool in its own right, newer, lifted, aftermarket-accessorized trucks are our focus for this rundown, something for shoppers who want a pickup that's already upgraded with wheels, tires, suspension bits.
As always, we want to know details if you follow up on one of these examples. Be sure to let us know about good diesel deals that you come across on Craigslist, too. Send info and a link to: dieselpower@motortrend.com.

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This rig has the textbook look of a former 8-Lug magazine feature truck, with a 15-inch lift, 40-inch tires, and all of the other requisite accessories onboard (power steps, aluminum hitch, train horns, paint and chrome undercarriage, etc. ). It's powered by a 6.6L Duramax and can be had for $65,000 (the seller says partial trades also will be considered).

2017 Ford F-250

Another truck that makes you think: "SEMA" when you look at it and read its impressive ledger of aftermarket hardware (the seller says $20,000 worth). The 6.7L Power Stroke turbodiesel engine was recently serviced. The asking price for this rig is $55,000.

2018 Ram 2500

On the newer end of the used truck spectrum, modified pickups like this one are perfect for enthusiasts with an extra $62,975 (or best offer) at their disposal. The 6.7L Cummins engine is stock, and it has a six-speed automatic transmission. The seller says the only way trades are being considered is if their value is on par with the price a dealer will pay for this rig.

1992 Chevrolet Blazer

Straight novelty here. That's it, that's all. We've been talking about Suburbans so much recently, no people remember there once was a diesel-powered (6.5L) Chevy Blazer. The lowest-priced ($18,000) truck in our rundown, this rare find has a rebuilt transfer case, one-ton axles, a 4L80e automatic transmission, and new wheels and tires. The seller says this rig is ready to "literally climb in and go across the country in." It's another vehicle that could be had through trade, so take a crack at scoring it if you're really interested.

Here is another modified pickup that's ready to go. It features a Full Throttle Suspension 7- to 9-inch lift, and has 24-inch American Force wheels with 35-inch tires. Apparently, it's also tuned and has 104,000 miles on the odometer. The price is $59,500.
