The third Covid Cruise brought custom Trucks and cars from all over SoCal

May 6, 2020

If you post it, they will come. At least that's the case when the world is staying at home and drivers are just itching to hop in their custom ride and go for a cruise. That's what our friend—and Week to Wicked host Jason Scudellari—was thinking, too. A Huntington Beach resident, Jason thought it would be cool to get a handful of friends together for a cruise around town, including a stretch of Pacific Coast highway and downtown Huntington's fabled Main Street. Jason did a couple Instagram posts in the days leading up to that Sunday, and about 35 trucks and rods showed up. In the next two weeks, groups like the Donut Derelicts, who famously meet pre-dawn at Adams Ave. Donuts in Huntington Beach, caught wind of the cruise. And by the second go-around, there were about 130 vehicles making the loop. In the last two weeks, however, word really spread. At this point, Jason estimates that the cruise flyer on Instagram had reached around 6 million people. And sure enough, this past Sunday saw around 500 custom vehicles!

The stay-in-your-car cruise saw tons of custom trucks, including off-road vehicles and prerunners, along with classics, street rods, and muscle cars. There were tons of high-dollar pro-touring vehicles there, rivaling the winner's circle at a Goodguys show. It was pretty impressive to say the least.

For us, we planned on making the very first Covid Cruise, but deadlines prevented us from making it to that one or the next one. In the middle of last week, we made getting Project Old School, Truckin Magazine's longest running project, ready for the occasion. We installed new Cragar S/S wheels, Diamondback Classic skinny white walls, and got our custom grille from Glory Grilles bolted up about 10:00 the night before! You'll be able to read all about it right here very soon. The truck ran a little hot, and we're realizing that the original 327 might not have ever had a real tune-up since we've owned it (20 years) so we'll try to get that worked out before the next cruise. If you want to join, check out @week2wickedjason, @truckinmagazine, or @cookkustoms for the updated flyer and route for May 17th.
