They Did It! Firepunk Diesel Has a 3-Second Chevy S-10 Cummins Drag Truck
The fastest diesel drag truck in the world?
It's a dang good day for the guys 'n gals at Firepunk Diesel, whose Cummins-powered 2000 Chevrolet S-10 diesel drag truck clocked a 3.998-second 1/8-mile pass at 182.67 mph. This accomplishes the team's personal goal of making a 3-second pass, and furthermore, makes the S-10 the (unofficial) quickest and fastest diesel in existence down the 1/8-mile track. Lavon Miller, owner of Firepunk Diesel and repeat winner of our very own Diesel Power Challenge in 2014 and 2015 with his 6.7-liter Cummins-powered 2004 Dodge Ram 3500, posted the S-10's 1/8-mile run and commented "3.99 BABY!!!! Unbelievable team effort!" That's a timeslip to frame.
In addition to an eruption of congratulatory comments on social media, one noted: "Absolutely unreal. If someone talked about making a pass like that with a diesel engine 10-15 years ago, you woulda been laughed at. Unreal how much [the] diesel industry has evolved in the last few years."
Firepunk's lightning-quick pass, delivered by driver Larson Miller, came during the 2021 Lights Out 12 event at the South Georgia Motorsports Park. Since the event is still in progress (it runs from February 24-28), there's time for Firepunk to punk its own time. The S-10 is running in the RVW (Radial Versus World) class due to its radial tires and all-fiberglass body. It's a class stacked with Camaro and Mustang gassers that can run 3.5 seconds at over 210 mph.
And yes, Firepunk Diesel's S-10 is barely into the 3s, but 3.998 counts. It's huge. While it's the first time in the 3s, we believe this is only the beginning for Firepunk and the future of clean-running diesel drag trucks.
