Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing Have a New Boat? Big Deal—Here Are Our Favorite Matching Boats and Rigs
Where Land and Sea Meet
What isn't there to love about matching boats and rigs, besides the fact that we probably can't afford them (or either piece of the equation, in the case of the following example)? Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing revealed their latest matching customized boat /vehicle combination at the Miami International Boat Show: a 59-foot Tirranna AMG Edition Cigarette Racing Team boat and a Mercedes-AMG G63 Cigarette Edition SUV. The dreamy cross-promotional duo kind of look like twinsies in terms of livery, but when it comes down to it, the stout G63, an alpha dog among four-wheeled land critters, finds itself cowed by the sea creature. Of course, it's an apples-to-oranges comparison: The offshore beast weighs more than 31,000 pounds and is powered by six (!) supercharged 4.6L V-8 Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines that produce 450 hp each, while the G63 Cigarette Edition houses a 577-hp 4.0L twin-turbo V-8. The one-off design and execution of the boat and rig combo reflect the craftsmanship of the high-end luxury performance companies involved.
The Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing Team collaboration got us thinking about all the times Truckin Magazine featured matching boats and rigs. That's right, way back in the 2000s, Truckin routinely featured boats and their matching tow vehicles. (Before you freak out, the aforementioned G63 isn't the Tirranna's tow rig.) In a bout of sentimentalism, we hit the internet and came up with 26 of our favorite matching boats and rigs from the pages of Truckin. While it's doubtful none can compete with Cigarette and Mercedes-AMG special editions—especially in terms of performance—it's fun to revisit the creative concept of boats matched with trucks and SUVs. After all, a boat can't get itself to the water without a little help from a tow vehicle.
