Mil-Spec Automotive Expands Its Custom-Builds Catalog

High-end truck upfitter adds an off-road-ready, high-performance Special Edition 2020 Ford F-150 to its lineup.

Apr 2, 2020
For most high-end truck enthusiasts, the name, "Mil-Spec Automotive," is immediately recognized as a company that is currently making inroads in the truck space, thanks to the impressive lineup of uber-brawny, custom Hummer H1s that are produced at the company's Birmingham, Michigan skunkwerks.
New to the fold is a series of Special Edition, $85,000 high-performance 2020 Ford F-150 pickups (highlighted by a naturally aspirated, 500-horsepower 5.0L V-8 engine), which Mil-Spec Co-Founder Adam Mitchell calls "an extension" of the popular H1.
"Our company designs always center on a deep passion for upgrading some of the world's most celebrated trucks," says Adam. "As truck enthusiasts, we are always on the hunt for platforms that we can dramatically improve from a performance perspective while also offering Mil-Spec Automotive's unique aesthetic. The new Mil-Spec Automotive F-150 is very much a go anywhere, do anything supertruck."

Off-Road Ready

Mil-Spec calls its four-wheel-drive F-150 a "tactically inspired alternative to Ford's Raptor," and says it is ready to take on tough terrain, thanks to an optional $6,000 Baja Performance Suspension Package that features a variety of Fox Racing Shox components (adjustable 3.0-inch front coilovers and bypass/remote-reservoir rear shocks, Eibach springs, etc. ).
The suspension allows up to 11 inches of wheel travel and 13.5-inches of increased track width over a stock F-150, making the truck seven inches wider than the Raptor, and as tall as an F-250 (with an off-road suspension that's as aggressive as the Raptor's). Twenty-inch Mil-Spec Automotive-inspired alloy wheels and 37x13.50R20 Nitto Ridge Grappler tires are the F-150's standard rolling stock.

Looks the Part, Exterior/Interior

Additional upgrades for the new Mil-Spec F-150 include the Baja Exterior Appearance Package ($8,600), which includes a low-profile Baja Roof Rack, spare-tire carrier that supports oversized off-road wheels, and a large 39-inch LED light bar system.
The trucks are also fitted with fully welded front and rear bumpers that are engineered from heavy-duty steel and support LED lighting components. Powder-coated side steps assist ingress and egress to and from the cab, while high-intensity LED headlights are added to help improve on-road driving visibility.
Each Mil-Spec Automotive F-150 is available in four exterior colors: Agate Black, Magnetic Grey, Lead Foot Grey, and Oxford White. Company-specific badging is featured throughout the exterior and interior, with each logo available in either a machine, semi-gloss black, or powder-coat black finish.

The unique F-150 also features interior styling that includes leather seats and other appointments throughout, billet-aluminum control knobs, and billet number plaques are included on the center console of each truck.
"Our goal was to include an extreme exterior aesthetic backed up by drastic performance improvements that could be applied to one of the most iconic North American vehicle platforms, the F-150," says Adam. "Many of the American aftermarket legacy brands have attempted to improve this platform in a turn-key package, but our in-depth market research revealed that more could be done while still achieving a price point that is well below what most of these companies are targeting."
