NFL Draft Pick Teddy Bridgewater Gives Mother Pink Cadillac Escalade
Fulfillment of Childhood Promise to Breast Cancer Survivor
Many of us have the dream of doing something nice for our parents, whether it's sending them on a nice vacation, buying them a house, or buying them a car. For former University of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, the gifting of a pink 2015 Cadillac Escalade was the fulfillment of more than a decade-long promise to his mother, Rose Murphy, a breast cancer survivor.
Some background on Bridgewater's childhood is captured in a seven-and-a-half-minute documentary by director Spike Lee, in which former teachers and coaches reflect on his dedication to school and sports and his love for his mother. His brothers and sisters share a story about how Bridgewater would throw and catch his own football pass while playing in the street.
Lee helped Bridgewater pick out the specific shade of pink for his mother's Escalade, and the two joked about whether or not her car should get spinners, a hot trend in the late '90s and early 2000s but now passé.
To present his mother with her custom-painted pink Escalade, Bridgewater hosted a birthday party at New York's Le Cirque restaurant, with Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts present for the presentation of the car.
