Oh Snap! 2016 Ford F-150 Raptor Mule!
Ford's Modern-Day Truck Legend Getting Ready for Encore Performance
We don't need to tell you how popular the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor is. Ever since its introduction in 2010, it's adorned the bedroom wall of teenage boys (and probably some girls), and been the object of desire for truck enthusiasts from ages 18 to 80. When the sheets were pulled from the 2015 F-150, one of the first questions on everyone's mind was "will there be a new Raptor?" Ford has officially been mum on the subject, but it looks like it's just a matter of time until we see a Raptor variation of the new aluminum-bodied F-150.
At first glance, this truck may not seem like anything special. But if you take a closer look at the cab portion of the body, you'll notice it's that of the 2015 model. You can also see the width of the bed and cab are mis-matched by several inches. The nose pretty much looks like the current Raptor, but beneath the mesh camo of the grille, you can see the outline of the F-150's traditional vertical-bar grille, and an outline of the blue oval.
If you're a fan of the current Raptor's thirsty, but muscular 6.2L SOHC V-8, don't hold your breath. Possibilities for the new Raptor's mill are the 3.5L EcoBoost, the 5.0L V-8, or the rumored flat-plane, twin-turbo "Voodoo" V-8 producing as much as 600 hp. We're not a big fan of the four-cylinder-like exhaust note that flat-plane V-8s make, but we're big fans of the major power and high revs they're capable of. We could see the next-gen Raptor as soon as this fall's Los Angeles Auto Show, or the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.
