OnStar 4G LTE Big News for 2015 GM SUV Models
Availability of Connectivity Feature Signals Pending Refreshes
General Motors is aggressively rolling out product updates for its 2015 models, and chief among them is the availability of OnStar 4G LTE connectivity across many of its models. GM had previously announced the availability in the feature on most of its 2015 models, with the rollout beginning with the 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and being offered across most models among the company's four brands.
But as we alluded to in our post regarding the 4G LTE pricing plans, what's telling is what models are not immediately receiving the connectivity option. Those models not receiving it may be due for a significant update or full redesign in the near future, as it seems GM is intent on offering the feature on all offerings, from its most entry-level models to its most indulgent flagships.
GM today announced some minor changes for more of its 2015 models, mostly new colors, new wheel designs, and availability of 4G LTE on more models. The Cadillac SRX crossover gets Cocoa Bronze Metallic and Majestic Plum Metallic as new exterior color choices. The GMC Terrain midsize crossover also gets OnStar 4G LTE as an option and adds Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic and Cypress Green Metallic to its color options.
As we noted yesterday, the GM Lambda triplet three-row crossovers are not getting 4G LTE for the 2015 model year, a possible indication of a big refresh coming for those models. The 2015 GMC Acadia gets a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, a new 20-inch wheel design, and three new colors: Crimson Red Tintcoat, Dark Sapphire Blue Metallic, and Midnight Amethyst Metallic. To nobody's surprise, the GMC Savana (and by extension, the Chevrolet Express) will not be immediately getting the connectivity option. What the future holds for GM's fullsize vans in the light of new competition from Ford and Ram is unknown.
