Video: Slow Tease Continues on 2016 Bentley SUV
Styling Details Start Taking Shape
The prospect of a Bentley-badged SUV is now well past the rumor point to being officially confirmed by the ultra-luxury brand and is even being given a timetable of calendar year 2016 for production. Little is officially known and confirmed about the SUV other than the availability of a plug-in hybrid model in 2017. Indications are that the production model will be sleeker, slightly smaller, and with more of a deliberate orientation toward performance than the EXP9-F concept shown in 2012.
A few more styling details about the upcoming model are revealed in this official video on Bentley's YouTube channel. The rear glass will have a pronounced angle, accentuating a sportier theme, with stylized "B" fender vents, and prominent, highly defined rear haunches. The front view outlined in the video largely mirrors that of the teaser shown in March, with the traditional mesh grille and round headlights.
Other than Bentley saying the SUV will be offered with a "range of engines," we don't know for certain what will be under the hood, but some leading contenders are the VW Group's 4.0L twin-turbo V-8 used in other Bentley and Audi high-performance models, the 6.0L W12, and the possibility exists for the offering of a diesel option, possibly a version of the 4.2L V-8 turbodiesel used in the Porsche Cayenne S Diesel.
