Volvo Reveals 2014 Memorial Day Tribute Truck
Custom-Painted Truck to Lead Motorcade to Washington D.C.
Memorial Day is a time for reflection for the sacrifices made by armed service members that lost their lives in service to their country, and it is commemorated by a number of parades and events throughout the country. Volvo Trucks is participating in commemoration of the holiday with a custom-painted VNL 670 truck that will be part of a motorcade of 175 motorcycles headed to Washington D.C. The truck and the motorcade will originate at Volvo's New River Valley (NRV) assembly plant in Dublin, Virginia, 280 miles southwest of the capital.
The design was created by employees of the NRV plant and members of UAW Local 2069. The theme the design team attempted to capture was a thoughtful reflection on fallen soldiers, while incorporating a healing aspect.
The Volvo VNL 670 is one of the company's best-selling models, offering multiple cab, chassis, and powertrain configurations, including Volvo's innovative I-Shift automated mechanical 12-speed transmission, which can be optioned with the Volvo D13 and D16 diesel engines. A Cummins ISX15 diesel engine is available with an Eaton AMT UltraShift automated transmission. Models equipped with the D-series engines and I-Shift transmissions can also be equipped with the XE powertrain package, increasing fuel economy by as much as three percent.
