Wretched Overkill: Mansory Massages Mercedes-Benz G63 6x6
Transformation Adds 292 hp, 176 lb-ft, A Big Dose of Look at Me
Just the stock Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen stands out as a vehicle for the non-conformist. Compared to the ever-more-sophisticated styling of competitors like the Range Rover and rivals on the horizon like the Bentley and reported Rolls-Royce SUV, the G-Wagen stands proudly defiant with its slab-sided sheetmetal barely changed from when it debuted in 1979. The level of opulence and power has increased over the last several decades, and deciding that having "just" a 4x4 wasn't enough, Mercedes-Benz recently built a very limited run of 6x6 G-Wagen models, most of which are intended for the Middle East.
But even the ridiculously large and over-the-top 6x6 G-Wagen still isn't enough for some buyers. For those with the need to make an even more outrageous statement on the road, German tuner Mansory has just released its take on Mercedes' über-SUV. For the not-so-modest sum of $520,000, Mansory will build one of these beasts for you (if you live outside of the U.S.) that includes copious quantities of carbon fiber, new LED headlights, and an engine transformation adding 292 hp and an electronically-limited 176 lb-ft of torque, bringing total output to 828 hp and 737 lb-ft.
If you have a thing for outrageous 4x4s (or 6x6s) and an essentially unlimited bank account, Mansory has your ultimate off-roader. But we think if we let David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan loose in a junkyard for a few days, they could probably build something just as outrageous for a lot less money.
