Even with the term CUV being used now this is what MTs SUV of the year has come to.  A front wheel drive wagon with a CVT, a 1500 lb tow rating  and Kelly Blue Book gives it a 7.5 out of 10.  I can't believe truck trend even posted this link on their site.  What and embarrassment and another discredit to MT.

I like the Forester and can appreciate a vehicle built to be practicle but it's not worthy of SUV of the year.  Too many great choices this year to settle for this.

I've had two Subarus and this is my third "SUV" - the first two were still back when they were called "TRUCKS"...  I've had a Dodge Ramcharger and a Dodge Raider.  My other Subaru was a "simple" 4WD Subaru DL Wagon.

I love my 2014 Forester Limited.  It's a fantastic daily driver (I replaced a Mazda 3 Sport 5 door with the Scooby) and don't regret it one bit...  Sure, is it a bit "less" sporty than the M3...?  Yep, but I never have to worry about hitting a dirt path/road or snow or heavy desert rains ever again.    I've gone "off-road" and yes, it's not the same trail-busting, rock-climbing I'd do in the old Ramcharger, but it's just as capable and I get 3 times the MPG...!

Knock the Forester and the "car-based crossover" beginnings, but my 78 year old mom can get in and out of the Forester without the step stool she needed with the Ramcharger when she was in her 50s and 60s....

I'm glad that the Forester won this prestigious award and I'm very glad to have a 2014 Forester in my driveway....

PS - the reason that there were no Fords (as others have lamented) is because Ford doesn't have anything NEW to bring to market... it's just more versions of the same-old, same-old...  And I did compare my Forester to a few others in the test, and others that didn't make the cut... And the Forester offers the best of all worlds - off-road and on, cost and value for what you get and so much more...

And, if I can get another 320,000 miles out of my new Subaru (as I did with the last one), I'm so far ahead of the game it's not funny...!

Bravo to Scooby and Fozzy for besting the field of the best 2014 SUVs the market has to offer...!

Congrats Subaru! Fast, fun, useful and affordable to operate.

I've yet to see a write up on how well the Forester does on snow. Instead most if not all the articles have been off road in mountain terrain. It would be my guess that most of the Foresters are bought and driven in the snow belt states more so than mountain terrain.

The Subaru models are very popular in the NE because of the snow and the excellent traction they have in those conditions. I do see some Subaru's down here in Florida but personally I think the AWD is a bit of overkill for the Sunshine state.

Definitely a no-brainer, as in "We picked it because we have no brains". Please tell me Truck Trend doesn't agree with that choice...I don't want to find out that you guys actually consider that glorified car and its inability to tow 2 full sized jet skis an actual SUV. However, I did get a good laugh out of all the references made to value. Means a lot coming from the same group who picked a Lexus as its first SUV of the Year and whose past winners include Acura, Land Rover, Mercedes, and Porsche. Seriously, just add a Crossover of the Year category.

Yes it's a good wagon/cute ute.  You should've kept the long babbling post just between you and the monkey.

Exactly!!  Motor Trend proves what kind of a joke they are every year.

"Our Choice is a No-Brainer - By Allyson Harwood"  That about sums it up.
