Long-Term Update: 2004 Chrysler Pacifica

It's trying to offer more than what most people want.

"Once you get past the sluggish engine (most noticeable with passengers or a load) and clumsy handling, you'll get it: It's trying to offer more than what most people want (car and minivan) as well as better quality than most would expect from Chrysler. On those points, this vehicle seems to succeed." The same editor went on: "Put yourself in a mini-van frame of mind, and you're happy. Put yourself in a sedan/wagon frame of mind, and the Pacifica falls short on performance." It manages to evoke that love/hate kind of relationship. "I hate the HVAC controls! There's little logic there. The same goes for the mess of buttons that control the stereo. It's all subpar for this price level. If anything really needed a backup sensor, this is it." Still this style-minded crossover continues to be a popular choice for those traveling, and the miles keep piling on. Our third scheduled visit to the dealer for the 18,000-mile service went without incident, with just the usual oil/filter change and visual inspections. our initial perception of quality, other than having to replace a clock spring or two, has lived up to expectations.
