Long-Term Update: 2006 Nissan Xterra

By Neil G. Chirico

2006 Nissan Xterra

Total mileage: 20,173
Unresolved problem areas: None
Maintenance cost: $79.02 (7.5k service); $212.29 (15k)
Normal-wear cost: $3 (one quart oil)

One of our editors took the Xterra to Reno for a holiday weekend, where it rained and snowed and the streets turned nasty. The rugged Nissan got him home, safe and sound.

Another editor confirmed the Xterra's dependability, saying it's still a nice ride even after 20k miles, although he judges it a little too jumpy off the line. The V-6 packs a punch, but throttle tip-in could be softened.

He adds that the materials look even better when scratched and roughed-up some. Like a favorite pair of jeans or sweatshirt, we'll regret not having this one around.
