"The CX-9'S silky-smooth ride and power delivery," says Truck Trend art director Thomas Voehringer, "make it my personal, rolling therapist. Throttle tip-in is light and responsive without the aggressive overreaction many 'scoot/utes' possess. The powerband is strong and fluid as you watch the digital display tick off the gears. Shifting can best be described as smooth-even under full power, gear selection is seamless." Luckily, our 2008 Sport/Utility of the Year continues to impress when turning and stopping. "Braking is progressive, and, yes, smooth. The initial grab will not jerk you, or your passengers, out of the seat. It's a firm, measured deployment reflected exquisitely in pedal feel. The entire driving experience in the Mazda CX-9 is graceful" -and it drives through trees with amazing accuracy.

Hot on the heels of winning Motor Trend's 2008 Sport/Utility of the Year title, the Mazda CX-9 has joined our long-term fleet, poised to prove it can remain a staff favorite following a year of grueling service.
3 Months and 9,928 miles - Managing editor Rusty Kurtz took our long-term CX-9 home for the weekend to cart around a gaggle of out-of-town friends.
5 months and 13,208 miles - The CX-9 continues to impress our staff and reaffirm our decision to name it Motor Trend's 2008 Sport/Utility of the Year.
8 months and 19,412 miles - With nearly 20,000 miles in only eight months of service, our long-term CX-9 is racking up the amount of mileage we're accustomed to seeing from ultra-utilitarian minivans. Why?
