Motor Trend Visual Assets Manager Brian Vance checks in once again on our long-term 2013 Honda CR-V. A tireless workhorse among the photo and video staff, the CR-V is is often asked to perform tasks it would rarely, if ever, encounter in its usual family-car duty. In a recent example, Vance chased a 500+ hp Mercedes coupe on a photo and video shoot, and despite the Mercedes' substantial power advantage over the humble Honda, the CR-V kept up with the Benz on the shoot.
However, that adventure left Vance pining for paddle shifters on the pedestrian kiddie-shuttle, which would have allowed for more precise speed control under pressure. But as Vance noted, the times when the CR-V would be used in such an aggressive manner by most owners are admittedly rare.
Yet Vance appreciates the CR-V for what it is, a handy, practical, efficient workhorse that accommodates far more cargo and gear than its modest exterior dimensions would suggest. Indeed, the CR-V is among the class leaders in compact crossover cargo space. The CR-V's tidy size also makes it easy to drive and maneuver in congested urban environments.
