Despite its horsepower advantage, the Ford could not keep up with its two competitors during the beginning stages.  Perhaps its weight or gearing may have had something to do with that, but I suspect the SOHC doesn't have the low end torque that the other two have...just like the Mustang GT's 5.0 pulls out later on.  In the end, though, the Ford beat the other two in the 0-90 run, but was considerably slower to get to 60mph.  Maybe this has less to do with weight/gearing than the nature of SOHC engine versus OHV engines.

What's the point of testing the gas engines in these trucks?

Because people buy them

0-60 times uloaded on a flat surface are one thing, but that can be decieving on how a truck performs overall.  These HD's are designed to haul/tow loads.  If you shoot over to pickuptrucks.com and check out their heavyduty shootout where they compair the 3 gas HD's with 10,000lbs behind them climbing a 16% grade you will see that the Ford left the other two in the dust.  If you live out on the flats that may not concern you much, but I live in the Rockies where climbing long grades is a common occurance.  Just some subjective thought to some people that think "0-60 times" are the gold standard, well maybe if your driving a sports car LOL!
