When I did my calculations on the Jeep Cherokee between gas vs. diesel, and the cost premium of a diesel engine, I'd break even in about 8 to 10 years. But some people seem willing to spend more money on technology in order to save on fuel. I'd strongly consider the diesel option if they don't charge too much for it.

If this diesel cost more to buy than the Pentastar (which I suspect it does) then it is not a cost-effective option, especially since diesel cost the consumer about $15 more to fillup than regular, or about $8 more than premium gasoline...and you have to listen to that diesel chatter the reviewers mention.
