The Handoff: Giving Our Pickup Truck of the Year Award to the GMC Sierra Denali
The Billet Piston
After a week of thorough instrumented and subjective testing, our Pickup Truck of the Year award for 2016 went to the handsome GMC Sierra 1500 Denali. After tallying the scores and casting the votes, the only thing left to accomplish was bestow the award on the truck in person. Luckily, the 2016 North American International Auto Show was the perfect venue in which to award our current favorite pickup.
In a ceremony with Truck Trend Editor Jason Gonderman and Truck Trend Network Content Director Sean P. Holman, GMC boss Duncan Aldred received the award in the stead of the Denali. Under Aldred, who has been in control of GMC since 2013, GMC sales have been on a steady upward trajectory, with solid year-over-year sales increases and greater market share for many of the brand’s vehicles, including the Sierra.
Aldred took the handoff with a smile. He and his team have a lot to be proud of with the Sierra Denali, and it’s 100 percent deserving of all the praise and prestige that our Billet Piston implies. Its high-quality interior fittings, world-class power and efficiency, and refined exterior styling make for one attractive truck, and we’re happy to see our award in GMC’s camp.
