The Handoff: Presenting our 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year to the GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali
Heavy-Hauling Diesel Wins Some Heavy Metal
We took an opportunity at the 2018 North American International Auto Show to present our famed Billet Piston award to the winner of the 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year, the GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali.
Vice President of Global Buick and GMC Duncan Aldred accepted the award in a friendly ceremony with Truck Trend Editor Jason Gonderman and Truck Trend Network Content Director Sean P. Holman. Gonderman and Holman expressed their admiration for the truck’s handsome styling, excellent powertrain, and long-haul comfort. After taking first place in five of the award evaluation’s seven categories (with a second place finish in another), the Sierra Denali HD dominated the competition.
Part of its charm goes to the all-new Duramax L5P engine. Displacing 6.6 liters and putting out 445 hp and 910 lb-ft, the L5P is competitive with its domestic diesel competition, and its stout Allison six-speed automatic transmission is about as tough as they come. These features led the GMC to a commanding lead in trailer towing, dispatching its burden with aplomb on our hilly route.
Aldred accepted the award on behalf of the entire GMC family, thanking Truck Trend editors for the recognition. The 2018 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali is an excellent option in the heavy-duty truck segment, and strong all-around performance earned it a very deserving place alongside some of our favorite trucks with its 2018 Pickup Truck of the Year win.
