2019 Pickup Truck of The Year Testing: Day One #PTOTY19
We are back testing eight pickup trucks for the 2019 Truck Trend Pickup Truck of the Year competition. The eight 1/2-ton trucks are fully capable, so our test results are critical. Day One on our test takes us out to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
At the speedway the trucks go through a weigh-in process. Knowing the curb weight of the trucks is critical so we can adjust payload in them. We compare the curb weight against manufacturer weight ratings to get our exact calculations.
The trucks are also taken out on the dragstrip, where we put them through a 0 to 60 acceleration test. We also test each truck’s braking system on the dragstrip.
The trucks are then loaded up for a payload test, repeating the same process on the dragstrip. Finally, we add a loaded trailer to the mix.
It’s not all instrument testing at the track. We have a little fun doing burnouts and shooting photos as well. Who doesn’t love a smoky burnout?
While we can’t reveal the numbers or how each truck did just yet, this is going to be one heated competition: Ford vs. Chevy vs. Ram vs. GMC. Stay tuned to see who comes out on top!
