2013 Nissan NV200 Long-Term Update 4

11,928 Miles: Geared Up and Going

It's been a full month since we had our Nissan NV200 upfitted with Adrian Steel's cargo shelves, wire partition, and ladder rack -- which added 132 pounds to our van's slender body. With the extra weight onboard, our average fuel economy only dropped by 0.1 mpg from last month's average of 24.2 mpg. And though we haven't used the new gear for any heavy tasks yet, it's been very handy for little things.
Upfitting our interior with the metal cargo shelves and wire partition has its up- and downsides. On the upside, the shelves have been awesome for trips to the grocery store; and the wire partition has kept my dogs safely in the rear, preventing them from crawling into the cockpit.
The only downside with the new gear is the extra noise added to an already raucous interior -- especially if you use the Bluetooth. "While the aftermarket shelves may bring more practicality to the NV200, they squeak and add to the noise," explains Motor Trend associate online editor Jason Udy. "In more than one instance, the person I was talking to over the Bluetooth connection thought the squeaking shelves was another person in the van."
