2016 Acura RDX First Look
Refreshed and Ready for More Luxury Crossover Competition
Acura's small crossover is gaining traction with consumers looking for a smaller luxury crossover, and the 2016 Acura RDX gets significant changes to stay competitive.
2014 was its best year for sales, but Acura senior vice president and general manager Mike Accavitti says, "We are not content in resting on our laurels." The new 2016 Acura RDX, which made its official debut at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, features a more powerful engine, new design elements, and new safety and luxury features.
In terms of power, the RDX benefits from a now more powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) cylinder-deactivation technology. Horsepower and torque have been increased to 279 hp and 252 lb-ft. The 2016 RDX also features new active front and rear engine mounts, an updated steering system, and stiffer suspension mounts. Acura's AWD with Intelligent Control has also been improved for greater rear torque to enhance stability and all-weather performance.
New design elements are immediately noticeable. More Acura styling points have been added to the RDX, including the automaker's signature Jewel Eye LED headlights and taillights. The front and rear fascias have been completely redesigned, with the front end featuring a new three-dimensional grille. All models in the RDX lineup now feature new wheel designs to give the crossover an added sense of luxury.
Inside the 2016 Acura RDX, a host of new standard and available features have been added, including high-contrast silver and black interior trim, standard heated front seats, and second-row air-conditioning vents. The upgraded Technology Package now features an eight-way power adjustable front passenger seat, dual-screen infotainment system, HD radio, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Advance Package now includes rain-sensing wipers, foglights, bi-directional keyless remote engine start, parking sensors, ventilated front seats, and the updated AcuraWatch system.
