Long Term Update 2: 2011 Honda Odyssey
3 months and 6480 miles
Los Angeles does not have the smoothest road surfaces in the world. Sure, some cars have a ride so soft and plush you barely notice the gaping seams between the concrete slabs, or the cavernous potholes. The Odyssey is not one of these vehicles.
Don't get me wrong; driving this minivan is not a jarring, back-breaking experience. However, the Honda Odyssey transfers more road feel and noise than I would prefer. The suspension is stiff enough to keep this minivan from wallowing over bumps and dips, but instead I feel and hear the road, and I wish it could be quieter. I love using the Hands-free Bluetooth connection with my cell phone to make calls, but with all that interior noise, I feel like I end up yelling to get the other person on the line to hear me. Conversations with passengers tend to be at a higher decibel level, too.
I've also had some issues with the USB audio connection. I plug my iPhone (3G with software version 4.3.3) into the Odyssey's audio system via a USB cord, and about a minute after a song has started playing, the audio will cut out. It's as if the device had been disconnected. I have found that if I unplug it and re-plug it in right away, it will continue playing as if nothing had happened (the song won't even pause).
Also, while music is playing through the USB connection, I've noticed the audio will skip ahead about half a beat every 5 minutes or so. At first I thought perhaps the files were corrupted upon importing into the device, but I have listened to the same songs with earbuds at a later time, and the files are fully intact. I also thought perhaps the USB cord was faulty; however, I have since used the same device and exact same cord in another vehicle, and the music plays smoothly, with no skips. I'm not sure what could be going wrong to cause these errors, but it is very frustrating. I'm hoping it's just a glitch in our minivan, and not all Honda Odysseys.
