2013 Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC Long-Term Update 2
9 Months and 22,273 Miles: The Family Favorite
Motor Trend Associate Editor Mike Febbo checks in again with another update on our long-term 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTEC. In this latest installment, Febbo drove the big Benz up to Reno, Nevada, for a family wedding, with the GL racking up a total of 1600 miles for the journey. With its full size and three rows, the GL had no problem accommodating family members. Despite being somewhat less roomy and practical than a rented minivan, the GL proved much more popular with the kinfolk.
Febbo noted that the GL's legendarily plush ride and handling are largely unaffected by being loaded close to the maximum. Although that extra weight slows acceleration slightly, the GL350 BlueTEC's brawny 455 lb-ft of torque seems to shrug off the burden with ease.
The high-mileage trek gave Febbo ample seat time in Mercedes' biggest SUV, and made him appreciate the vehicle's merits even more. He notes that other staff editors often ask him if it's available and that, due to its popularity, it may set a new record for having the most miles driven in a long-termer.
