2013 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4x4 Long-Term Update 3

7 Months and 14,344 Miles: For Work or Play

Allyson HarwoodMar 11, 2014
We have been truly impressed with the Ram and enjoy this truck as a daily commuter and weekend hauler. But it's clear some of the equipment we got on our long-termer isn't exactly made for hard work. We aren't surprised by that; it has just become more evident over time.
First on the list of things we noticed: the chrome has bubbled on the driver-side mirror and in one or two spots it has chipped. We understand something can scrape a side mirror (it may have happened in a parking lot, for example) and chip whatever the coating is on a side mirror, but we are still trying to determine what caused the chrome to bubble. No, chrome isn't a tough coating, but it still seems strange that this would happen to a truck within its first year.
The next thing we observed was that the headliner and A-pillars are a light color, kind of a light gray. That is a great-looking contrast to the dark interior, but not conducive to work. Imagine you just finished working on your truck, or doing something at a construction site, and you want to get in and drive to another spot on the job. You grab the grab handle on the A-pillar with your grubby gloves, get behind the wheel, and go. If you have anything dark or greasy on the gloves, that's now on and around the grab handle. If you're getting a Ram as a work truck, you may want to consider getting a darker interior color for the headliner and pillars. The dirt does come off, but black would do a better job of hiding it.
All in all, the truck makes towing and hauling easy, and it's holding up well, aside for those minor things.
